Half of legislative races in 2024 were uncontested. Voters have no choice at all! That means 50% of our elected officials were elected by simply turning in paperwork.
Only 4% of all races in Illinois were competitive (decided by 5% or less). The politicians didn’t have to do anything to earn your vote.
Federal courts confirmed Illinois maps were drawn specifically to keep current politicians in power and weaken voter power. They weren’t drawn to give citizens a voice in their government.
In 2022, one party got 50.9% of the vote but only 34% of the seats.
What’s Broken:
Maps are drawn behind closed doors by politicians for their own benefit.
Self-serving politicians haveunchecked power over redistricting—minority voices are shut out.
Communities are split apart, making it harder for neighbors to have unified representation.
Districts are designed to protect politicians—not to reflect real people or places.
The Result:
Uncompetitive elections, extreme partisanship, low voter turnout & lack of trust in government, and a state government that answers to insiders—not Illinoisans.
