A Constitutional Fix for a Rigged Process

We’re advancing a constitutional amendment for the 2026 ballot that reforms redistricting by removing partisan control and protecting the rights of voters—not politicians. We’re advancing a constitutional amendment for the 2026 ballot that reforms redistricting by removing partisan control and protecting the rights of voters—not politicians.

What We’re Doing:

We’re amending the Illinois Constitution to take redistricting power away from politicians and replace it with a transparent, voter-first process grounded in fairness and accountability. Voters should have the power, not the politicians.

What the Fair Maps Amendment Does:

  • Ends political map-rigging. Bans the use of political party affiliation or voting history when drawing districts.
  • Protects communities. Requires districts to be compact and to follow county, municipal, and township boundaries rather than being drawn to split up communities and silence your voice.
  • Prioritizes compactness & protects communities of interest.
  • Follows successful models in Arizona, Iowa, Pennsylvania
  • Follows the law. Aligns with Illinois Supreme Court precedent, including the Schrage v. State Board of Elections compactness standard.
  • Ensures transparency and fairness. Shifts power from political insiders to a redistricting process designed to reflect the will of the people.

Why Our Amendment Can Succeed Where Others Failed:

  • Built within current legal framework
  • Avoids the procedural pitfalls that sunk the 2016 attempt
  • Builds on proven models — drawing lessons from Arizona, Iowa, and Pennsylvania
  • Backed by bipartisan legal experts and constitutional scholars and authored by Democratic and Republican legal experts who understand Illinois’ political and legal landscape

Fair Maps Mean:

  • More competitive elections
  • More accountable politicians
  • More responsive government
  • More transparent & collaborative mapmaking
  • Less extreme partisanship

This is how we restore democracy in Illinois.
